Assess to Learn (AtoL)
Pakaraka School has participated in this teacher professional development programme over the past few years.
The use of effective teaching and learning strategies based on assessment for learning (AFL) principles in the classroom enables teachers to understand and develop new skills in a supportive environment. The ability to choose appropriate assessment tools and to analyse and use assessment information to advance student learning are important components of this whole school programme.
The programme outcomes are:
- Improve student learning and achievement.
- Shifts in teachers' assessment knowledge and practice.
- Develop coherence between assessment processes, practices, and systems in classrooms and schools so they promote better learning.
- Develop schools as learning communities to encourage cultures of continuous improvement.
- To enhance strong professional learning communities regionally and nationally.
